More CCTV cameras for Central Jail

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - BALLARI:

As part of improving the security system and also to curb unlawful activities by the inmates, as many as 60 closed circuit TV cameras have been installed at strategic points in and around the Central Jail here.

These new CCTV cameras installed are in addition to the eight cameras installed earlier, after a jail break that occurred a couple of years back when three undertrials had escaped. Despite having eight CCTVs, there were reports of inmates indulging in illegal activities. A video footage showing some of the inmates gambling and few others smoking ganja had gone viral recently. The new cameras are advanced and could be accessed by senior jail authorities in Bengaluru through the internet. When contacted, P. Ranganath, Jail Superintendent, told The Hindu that the cameras were placed at all strategic points.
