Three days after the monsoon’s onset over south Karnataka, the system made its way northwards covering the entire coast and almost all of south interior Karnataka, including Bangalore, on Monday.
Only the 10 districts of north interior Karnataka remain to be covered by the system, according to the Met bulletin, which adds that it could take two to three days before the monsoon advances here. While the monsoon is associated with heavy rainfall in the three coastal districts which receive a total of 3083.5 mm over the four monsoon months, it very “rarely” brings a massive downpour to the interiors, said Met director B Puttanna.
On Monday, Kundapur in Udupi and Kumta in Uttara Kannada recorded a copious 9 cm of rainfall each and Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada received 7 cm. The Met department warns of heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Karnataka and Malnad districts in the next two days.
The rains brought about a distinct nip in the air in Bangalore, which recorded a minimum of 19 degrees on Monday morning.
