‘Molkalmuru saris yet to gain popularity in north Karnataka’

Molkalmuru silk sari, a popular product of Chitradurga district, though has gained substantial popularity in central and southern Karnataka, is yet to become popular in north Karnataka.

N. Tukaram, one of the Molkalmuru sari manufacturers of Chitradurga district who has put up a stall at the ‘Gol Gumbaz Vastra Vaibhava-2015’ at Radio Maidan here said, .that owing to lack of awareness, people of North Karnataka have no idea about this traditional silk sari.

He, however, hoped that regular participation of people like him in exhibitions in north Karnataka would make people aware of this sari.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Hindu , Srinivas Safare, Deputy Director, Department of Handloom and Textile said that the department had been organising the district-level exhibition for the last six years with an objective of promoting handloom products. He said that the exhibition provides a one-stop-shop facility for the customers to buy different types of handloom products under one roof at the discounted rates.

The six-day exhibition will remain open for people till Sunday.
