Moily opposes NDRC

October 02, 2014 02:56 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:06 pm IST - Bangalore:

Former Union Minister and Chickballapur MP M. Veerappa Moily opposed on Wednesday the Centre’s decision to replace the Planning Commission with the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC).

Speaking at the inauguration of a prelude conference on ‘Trends in Centre-State relations,’ jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Public Administration and St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) in the city, Mr. Moily said there should be a nationwide debate on the issue.

“The NDRC is best suited for countries such as China and not for a federal structure like India. It should be debated as it can only destroy our economy,” he said. He suggested that the Centre restructure the Planning Commission instead of dismantling it. The Constitution had a solution for all conflicts between Centre and States.

D. Jeevan Kumar, professor of Political Science and Dean, Faculty of Arts in Bangalore University, spoke on the trends in Centre-State relations post-Independence.
