Hitting out at the BJP for announcing Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwar has said that this was the “biggest tragedy” for the country.

“It is unfortunate that Mr. Modi, who split Gujarat into two by his communal politics, is the prime ministerial candidate for his party. It is ridiculous that senior party leader L.K. Advani, who is facing charges of creating communal tension ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition, is opposing Mr. Modi’s candidature,” Dr. Parameshwar said in a press release. “It is also ridiculous that the BJP members who have always said that the party was above individuals are now considering Mr. Modi above everything else,” the release added.

‘JD(S) fears violence’

Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president A. Krishnappa said, “My fear is that violence of a bigger degree could be unleashed if we have someone like Mr. Modi as the prime minister.”
