Writer clarifies that he is not with any political party

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be a better Prime Minister compared with Rahul Gandhi because of his humble background, writer S.L. Bhyrappa has said.

After releasing Modi Haadi, a collection of articles written by Mahabalamurthy Kodlikere here on Sunday, Mr. Bhyrappa said he could become a good writer because of his poor background.

The writer, who claimed to have interacted with autorickshaw drivers, owners of small industrial units and government officials in Gujarat during his recent to that State, said people there need not pay bribe for getting power and water connections and service in government hospitals.

Rich family

On the contrary, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who was born in a rich family, had no experience of any kind. “He [Mr. Gandhi] cannot be a good Prime Minister,” Mr. Bhyrappa added.

He doubted whether the Congress was using Nandan Nilekani, its candidate from Bangalore South, to score some political point rather than getting him elected. Mr. Nilekani, a proven entrepreneur, should not have tried his hand in politics.

Mr. Bhyrappa clarified that he was not with any political party and even had refused to accept the offer of the then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to become an MLC from the teachers constituency.

M. Rama Jois, MP, said that Jawaharlal Nehru’s obsession with secularism divided people on religious and communal lines and his socialist leanings led to lethargy and corruption in administration and destroyed entrepreneurship.
