MLCs want ministerial berths

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is now facing pressure from Congress MLCs, who have teamed up to demand more Cabinet berths for their fraternity.

According to party sources, several Congress MLCs, including M.V. Rajasekharan met on Friday to discuss the issue. Chief Whip of the Congress in the Upper House, R.V. Venkatesh, the former Chairman of the Council Veeranna Mathikatti and eleven MLCs, including Allama Prabhu Patil, Gayathri Shanthe Gowda and Dayananda Reddy, attended the meeting, sources said.

“Although there was a fairly decent representation of MLCs in the State Cabinet in the past, Mr. Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet has just one MLC (S.R. Patil). We definitely deserve more representation,” the participants felt.

Step by step

“We have decided to first meet the Chief Minister and KPCC president G. Parameshwara after which we will apprise AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh about our grievance,” a senior MLC said.
