Mixed verdict in TPs

February 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - MYSURU:

The elections to seven taluk panchayats (TPs) in the district have thrown up a mixed verdict with the JD (S) securing a majority in three TPs against the three bagged by the Congress.

While the JD (S) has secured a majority of the seats in Mysuru, Hunsur and Periyapatna TPs, the Congress has managed to capture K.R. Nagar and Nanjangud by crossing the halfway mark in both the TPs.

Two others – H.D. Kote and T. Narsipura TPs – will be hung houses, affording various political parties an opportunity to align with each other to come to power.

The Congress, which has emerged the single largest party in the ZP, too has managed to secure 83 out of the 187 TP seats in the district against the 69 won by its nearest rival JD (S). Though the BJP won 31 seats, it was unable to open its account in three TPs – Hunsur, KR Nagar and Periyapatna.

Four Independents, including two in Nanjangud, have been elected to TPs in the district.
