Missing cases: Shimoga tops list with 172 cases so far

Though the number of cases pertaining to missing women and girls were on the decline in the eastern range comprising Davangere, Chitradurga, Haveri and Shimoga districts, cases in Shimoga district this year is slightly higher compared to the rest.

According to sources in the Police Department, the number of missing cases reported from January till August in Shimoga district is 172. Of this, the police have solved 113 cases and 44 are yet to be traced.

In 2013, the number of missing cases reported from the district was 212, of which the police have traced 184 women. They are yet to solve 28 cases.

In Chitradurga district, 88 missing cases have been reported from January to August. Of this, the police have traced 78 women and are yet to solve 12 cases. In 2013, 112 cases were reported from the district and the police traced 110 women, sources said.

In Davangere district, 103 missing cases have been reported till date. Of this, 61 have been traced and 42 cases are yet to be solved. In 2013, 179 cases were reported in which the police solved 150 cases.

Compared to other districts, the missing cases reported from Haveri district were less. So far, 29 missing women cases were reported in the current year and the police have solved 20. Nine cases are yet to be solved.

In 2013, the district recorded 38 cases in which 30 were solved. Eight were yet to be solved, sources added.

Shimoga district tops the list with the number of girls (aged between 15 and 18) going missing in the present year.

So far, Shimoga has recorded 38 cases, Davangere 29 cases, Chitradurga 26 and Haveri district 14 cases.

Of the total number of cases, 23 girls have been traced in Shimoga, 19 in Davangere, 23 in Chitradurga and 11 in Haveri, sources added.
