Municipal administration minister Eshwar Khandre’s driver and gunman helped an accident victim on Friday night. V.A. Gadgi, who works at a parking lot in Telangana, was seriously injured when his scooter hit a road-side tree on the Bidar- Hyderabad Road, near Rejintal, around 11 p.m.

Mr. Khandre’s staff was returning to Bidar after dropping the minister off at the RG International Airport near Hyderabad.

Gopal Reddy, the minister’s gunman, noticed the victim and stopped the car. He and the driver shifted the victim to the Bidar district hospital in the official vehicle late at night. Doctors on duty gave him initial treatment and referred him to the Osmania Hospital on Saturday morning.

Mr. Reddy said the minister was keen the patient be given immediate treatment. “All through the process, we were in constant touch with the minister. He spoke to us before his plane took off and then called back when he touched down in Bengaluru. Mr Khandre later spoke to the authorities in the Hyderabad hospital,’’ Mr Reddy said.

“If the victim had not been attended to immediately, he could have died. He was brought within the first hour of his accident. That was very crucial,” said a doctor in the district hospital.
