Sunil Valyapure, Minister for Infrastructure Development, has decided to resign from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
He told presspersons at the residence of Mohan Limbikai, MLC, in Hubli on Saturday night that he would hand over his resignation to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday.
When contacted on the telephone, Mr. Valyapure told The Hindu, “I will participate in the convention of the Karnataka Janata Paksha in Haveri on Sunday.”
He said he had tried faxing the resignation letter, but it did not go through. “I will speak to the media in detail on Sunday,” Mr. Valyapure added.
Yeddyurappa dares BJP
Meanwhile, in the wake of the BJP suspending two of his loyalists, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has challenged the party central leadership to dissolve the Assembly and face the election if they have any belief in democracy.
Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons here on Saturday that such moves would adversely affect the government and lead to the exodus of 30 to 40 legislators from the BJP. He said the government was on the brink of a collapse. Claiming that over 50 legislators and 10 Ministers were loyal to him, the former Chief Minister asked the central leadership to allow the government to function as it was “a KJP-BJP coalition government”.
“Instead of allowing the government to function in the interests of the people, they have acted with political vengeance and suspended two of my followers,” Mr. Yeddyurappa said.
