Qamarul Islam seeks booklet on the status of State Highways

Minister for Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Qamarul Islam has expressed displeasure over officials of the Department of Public Works not providing details on road repair works and widening of State highways in the district.

Chairing a quarterly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme here on Tuesday, he directed the officials to provide a booklet on the status of State Highways in the district. Around 362 road repair and bridge projects on State Highways were taken up under 14 different plan and non-plan heads in the district in 2015-16, of which 346 were completed and work on 16 others were under progress.

The officials provided the details of seven road repair works taken up under the Chief Minister’s Grameen Raste Abhivruddhi Yojana in Afzalpur, Aland and Kalaburagi taluks at a cost of Rs.2.51 crore, while they failed to provide the taluk-wise work details of other projects.

Minister of State for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil alleged that the officials of Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd. for delaying works on the Lower Mullamari Irrigation Project. Works for Rs. 1.9 crore had been completed against the target of Rs. 13.5 crore.

Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal directed the officials to extract and stock adequate sand in the stockyards in the next 15 days, as it would be difficult to extract sand during the monsoon. Mr. Bansal said that around 30,000 cubic metres of illegally extracted sand was seized in the district.

Around 17,448 cubic metres of sand was available in the 12 stockyards and this would be used for government projects, Mr. Bansal added.

Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Anirudh Sravan and Kalaburagi Mayor Syed Ahmed were present.
