The former Chief Minister and BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa has accused Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil of ensuring release of water to the Jindal Group from the dead storage of Almatti reservoir.

Speaking to presspersons in Gadag on Tuesday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that when the State was reeling under drought, Mr. Patil had misused his office to release water from the dead storage of Almatti reservoir. He also sought an answer from Mr. Patil on the issue.

Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged that there was large-scale corruption in the re-development of Malaprabha and Ghataprabha canals. He said that there was high-level corruption as the project cost had almost doubled within a few months which should be inquired into.

On Tuesday, Mr. Yeddyurappa addressed party workers in Gadag. Earlier, he had breakfast in the house of a Dalit in Shigli village of Shirahatti taluk and addressed a gathering as part of his tour of drought-hit villages.
