Middlemen found cheating farmers

March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MYSURU:

The officials of Legal Metrology have claimed that middlemen were found to be cheating farmers by using faulty weighing scales while purchasing paddy from their fields in different parts of Mysuru district.

Sarala Nair, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology Department, Mysuru, told The Hindu that they found middlemen indulging in fraudulent practices while purchasing paddy from farmers in their fields in T. Narsipur, K.R. Nagar and Nanjangud.

“During the harvesting season a few months ago, we had received complaints about fraudulent practices and conducted surprise inspections at various paddy fields. The platform scales that the merchants were using turned out to be faulty in at least 20 instances. We have booked cases against them and seized the scales,” said Ms. Nair.
