The electorate in the Bellad Bagewadi Gram Panchayat of Hukkeri taluk have created a history of sorts by ensuring unanimous election of all its 33 members for the fifth time in a row.

Confirming the uncontested election of all the 33 members, including 17 women, Assistant Returning Officer T.A. Nandani told The Hindu on Thursday that a total of 49 persons had filed nominations for the 33 seats in the gram panchayat.

However, 16 contestants withdrew their nomination on the last day of withdrawal of nominations and paved way for uncontested elections of the 33 persons.
