The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will be taking over 50 Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) layouts under its jurisdiction by the end of the month.

After a review meeting in the presence of officials from MCC and MUDA, a decision was taken to bring 35 layouts under MCC’s administrative control before the end of this week and the remaining 15 layouts by the end of this month.

The layouts to be transferred include MUDA developed layouts and MUDA approved private layouts.

About 20 more MUDA layouts could not be transferred as they fell out of MCC’s geographic jurisdiction. Hence, a decision has been taken to send a proposal to the government to expand the MCC’s geographic area to include all the MUDA layouts in and around Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Speaking to The Hindu after the review meeting, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said a few layouts near the ORR, including the ones near Hinkal on the outskirts of the city, could not be transferred as they fell outside MCC’s jurisdiction.

With regard to the 50 layouts to be transferred, MCC and MUDA will have to come to a mutual understanding on executing pending works, if any.

The owners of houses in the MUDA layouts will have to pay their property taxes to MCC effective April 2017 for the year 2016-17.

MUDA does not have power to accept property tax under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act and the taxes already collected have to be transferred to MCC. “MUDA can only develop layouts and hand them over to MCC,” he said.

Mr. Randeep clarified that the property owners, who had paid the property tax to MUDA for the last few years, need not pay the taxes to MCC for the same period again.

However, if the owners have arrears of property tax for previous years, the same has to be paid to MCC and not to MUDA, he said.
