The Mysuru City Corporation will set up a solid waste treatment plant at Kesare, Rayanakere and Vidyaranyapuram under a public-private partnership.

Bhyrappa, Mayor, said that some entrepreneurs, prepared to invest over Rs. 20 crore for each plant, have already had discussions with the civic body and the MCC will soon call for tenders for the same.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Mayor said that 450 tonnes of garbage are being generated every day and 100 tonnes of it are being disposed of methodically.

The remaining waste is being used for land filling and the corporation wants to dispose of the entire garbage methodically and produce manure, he added.

He said that companies, with experience in generating power from waste, have also expressed interest.

The Mayor said that between Rs. 20 crore and Rs. 35 crore is needed for each plant and added that this would help curb the piling up of garbage and the haphazard discard of garbage.

The MCC has also decided to build 11 pay-and-use toilets in 10 wards soon to eliminate open defecation.

The places are truck terminal in ward number four; near Kalamandira in 19; Vasanthnagar in 24; Kudremala in 23; slum colony in Kumbarakoppalu in 28; Dongri colony in Kumbarakoppalu in 28; Medar block in 34; the Kesare burial ground in 46; Kalpavruksha Nagar in 48; near the water tank in 54; behind Hilal school in Kyatamaranahalli tank in ward number 58.

Mr. Bhyrappa said that the corporation plans to construct such toilets in all 66 wards and in slums in a phased manner to prevent open defecation.

Under the Housing for All scheme, the corporation will help over 2,684 poor people from all castes to build new houses on vacant sites or where their old and dilapidated structures are present.

The Union government will give Rs. 1,50,000 while the State government will give Rs. 1,20,000 and the MCC will give Rs. 50,000 to build each house.
