Kumaraswamy, husband of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Assistant Commissioner Veena, allegedly ended his life by jumping into the backwaters of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir in the district.

The 53-year-old was missing since Sunday and a missing person complaint was registered in Mysuru, the KRS police said.

The KRS police suspects health issues as the reason for his suicide.

He had suffered a back problem a few years ago, the police added. Mr. Kumaraswamy was a native of Chikkayaragana Halli near Channarayapatna in Hassan district and had been staying with his family at Dattagalli in Mysuru. He was a teacher and had resigned a few years ago following health issues. On Tuesday, a few tourists spotted the body floating near Sri Venugopala Swamy temple and alerted the police.

The police recovered the body, registered a case of unnatural death and are trying to ascertain reasons behind the alleged suicide.
