The Mysore City Corporation has collected Rs. 9,775.94 lakh till November-end as part of property tax, water cess, and trade licence fee. It has spent over Rs. 9,488.69 lakh on administrative and drinking water supply expenses.
Also, it has paid Rs. 847.93 lakh till November-end to contractors and for electricity charges and waste disposal expenses.
Furnishing details, Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation C.G. Betsurmath told The Hindu that the total target collection of property tax till March 2014 is Rs. 8,518.95 lakh. Of this, Rs. 5,341.11 lakh was collected so far till November-end, thus achieving 65 per cent collection so far.
Similarly, the corporation has collected Rs. 25 crore as water cess till November-end as against the target of Rs. 36 crore to be collected by March.
The corporation collected Rs. 140.42 lakh as trade licence fee till November-end, against the target of Rs. 254.7 lakh till March next year.
Mr. Betsurmath denied allegations made by a few councillors that the corporation had failed to mobilise its resources and was dependent on the Rs. 400 crore released under the Chief Minister’s special grant.
He said that after he took over as the Commissioner four months ago, he had taken up special drives to collect property tax, water cess and trade licence fee.
Referring to the issue of contractors stopping work against non-payment of bills since two days, he said he had paid over Rs. 37.50 crore in the last four months.
He said he had initiated certain measures to settle bills of contractors in a phased manner.
