The Masters National Aquatic Championship will be held at the Chamundi Vihar swimming pool in Mysuru from Wednesday.

The 14th Masters National Aquatic Championship and the 2nd National Inter-Club Swimming Championship will be held in Mysuru in the first week of November.

It is being organised by the Karnataka Swimming Association. The national championship is slated to be held from November 1 to 3 and the inter-club championships from November 5 to 7 at the newly-constructed Chamundi Vihar Sports Complex.

Satish Kumar, Association Secretary, said that the moving of the national championship was initiated by the association mainly to promote a healthy lifestyle and competitive spirit. More than 1,100 participants from all over India are expected to participate in the Masters while about 500 registrations have been made for the inter-club championships for children between 11 to 17 years.

This is the the fourth time the Masters championship is being held, but it is being conducted in Mysuru for the first time.

When the championship was introduced in 2003, there were only 200 swimmers. This year the registration was close to 1,100 with the highest entries —155 in all — from Maharashtra followed by 120 from Karnataka.

The senior-most participants are Aranake Ramakrishna and Rambhaji Babaji – both 86 years, from Maharashtra. In all, there are six participants who are over 80 years old.
