Martyrs’ Day observed

February 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Shivamogga:

The Martyrs' Day was observed by the activists of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) here on Friday by staging a demonstration against the alleged efforts of Hindu Mahasabha and other Hindutva organisations to venerate Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing the meeting, Aijaz Basha, district unit President of SDPI, expressed concern over the move of Hindu Mahasabha to construct temples in the name of Godse and instal his busts in public places. It is unfortunate that Hindu Mahasabha is trying to glorify the assassin, he said.

The civil society should condemn the efforts to glorify Godse. He said the Martyrs' Day should be observed to protect secularism and defeat the fascist forces, he said .
