Kuvempu University has initiated disciplinary action against eight employees for their involvement in examination irregularities and in the marks card scam.
The special Syndicate meeting on May 31 took a decision in this regard based on the recommendations of the inquiry panel headed by retired judge Basavaraj Tadal.
The university has terminated the services of Ramesh, Ramu, Siddachari and Shivakumar who were serving as second division assistants.
It has demoted the other four employees. Palaksha Naik, who was earlier serving as Assistant Registrar, has been demoted to the post of office superintendent; Piriya Naik, who was serving as senior first division assistant, has been demoted to first division assistant; Thimmaiah and Madan Rao, who were first division assistants, have been demoted to the post of attender.
The Bhadravati police team busted a racket in May 2012 pertaining to issuance of fake marks cards and awarding high marks to students by taking bribes. The police had seized a large number of fake marks cards, unevaluated answer scripts and electronic gadgets used to print marks cards from the residences of employees in the evaluation section of the university.
The police had registered cases against nine employees, who were then suspended. One of the employees has since died. In addition to the police inquiry, the university had formed an inquiry panel under Mr. Tadal on February 19, 2013 to probe the role played by the suspended employees in the scam. The panel submitted its report in April this year and recommended disciplinary action against these employees. The report was tabled in the Syndicate meeting held on May 17.
The newly nominated members of the Syndicate sought time to study the report in detail and the special meeting of the Syndicate on May 31 decided to initiate disciplinary action against these employees.
