K. Mari Gowda, former president of the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat and a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, surrendered to the Nazarbad police here on Wednesday noon, a month after he allegedly intimidated and abused C. Shikha, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru.
He was produced before the third JMFC court, which remanded him in judicial custody till August 16.
Before taking him to the court, the police took Mr. Gowda to K.R. Hospital for a medical examination.
The anticipatory bail application of Mr. Gowda, who was at large ever since the Deputy Commissioner filed a complaint against him, was rejected by the seventh Additional District and Sessions court here. Subsequently, he applied for advance bail in the High Court, only to withdraw the application on Tuesday.
When Mr. Gowda was produced before the court here on Wednesday, his counsel Jagadish argued that the former zilla panchayat president was innocent and a false case had been filed against him. Mr. Jagadish sought bail for Mr. Gowda. Assistant public prosecutor Harishchandre Gowda opposed the bail and sought a day’s time to file objections.
