Many in race to head Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy

With the State government issuing an order to relieve film actor Tara from the post of chairperson of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA), many film personalities are aspiring for the coveted post.

According to sources, five former presidents of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) namely actor Jaimala, producers K.C.N. Chandrashekhar, Basanth Kumar Patil, Sa.Ra. Govindu, and exhibitor K.V. Chandrashekhar are in the race.

Besides them, actor Bhavana, who campaigned for Congress candidates, directors S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu and Nanjunde Gowda, and producer S.A. Chinne Gowda are also trying their luck through their political “godfathers”.

Many meetings held

When contacted, president of the KFCC B. Vijayakumar said that four rounds of meetings were held to choose one chairperson for the academy and one for Kanteerava Studios. Several names figured during the discussion.

“The final list will be prepared and sent to the government shortly, and it is up to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take a final call”, he said.

Meanwhile, the government, through its letter, asked chairpersons of academies, boards, authorities and corporations to quit from their posts. Following this, the chairperson of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Kasargod Chinna submitted his resignation. “I got an SMS from Mr. Chinna that he was quitting from the post of chairperson of the academy”, said, Basavaraj, Secretary, Kannada and Culture Department.
