Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok, who also holds the Home portfolio, on Saturday announced that the main accused in the Morning Mist Homestay attack would be booked under the Goonda Act.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a function at the Police Headquarters here to launch the ‘Technology-driven traffic management and enforcement’ programme, Mr. Ashok said that of the 27 accused, 23 had been arrested.
There was no question of sparing anyone connected to the incident, he asserted.
‘Police did their duty’
When asked about C. Manjula, Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women, blaming the police for the attack, Mr. Ashok said that the police had discharged their duty and did the best they could under the circumstances.
“The police acted swiftly and arrested a few of the accused within eight hours of the incident,” he asserted.
Bipin Gopalakrishna, Additional Director-General of Police, (Law and Order) told The Hindu that the inquiry into the incident was going on and the final report would be submitted to the State government in three days.
