Despite scorching heat, a rush of voters was witnessed in the polling stations across the district for Gram Panchayat elections on Friday.

According to official sources, 27.71 per cent of voters exercised their franchise till 11 a.m. The percentage of voting was 9.9 per cent at 9 a.m.

While Housing and District In-charge Minister M.H. Ambareesh cast his vote at his native village Doddarasinakere in Maddur taluk, MLAs and other elected representatives exercised their franchises at their native villages.

Polling began at 7 a.m. at all 1,694 polling booths of 230 Gram Panchayats in the district amid tight security arrangements.

A total of 12,10,415 voters, including 6,02,851 women and 27 others, will decide the fate of 8,328 contestants (including 3,875 women) candidates who are contesting throughout the district.

No cases of poll-related disturbances have been reported so far.
