Mandya to get water once in three days from tomorrow

Mandya Karnataka 31_March_2016 : With several villages facing acute shortage of drinking water, Mandya Zilla Panchayat has set up helplines in Mandya on March 31, 2016.Meanwhile, the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) has decided to supply water to Mandya residents once in three days from April 1.

Residents in Mandya town will face a severe drinking water problem from Friday with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) deciding to supply water once in three days.

The KUWSDB has decided to do so due to frequent power cuts and shortage of water, KUWSDB Executive Engineer Madaiah told The Hindu here on Thursday. The population of the town, which has 35 wards, is around 1.50 lakh.

Shortfall

The town requires 30 MLD (million litres a day) water per day. But, the supply is only 19 MLD, he said.

According to the tanker-water suppliers, the demand for water has increased manifold in the town in the last two weeks owing to increase in temperature.

Helpline

Meanwhile, the Mandya Zilla Panchayat has launched a ‘helpline service’ to receive complaints with regard to drinking water supply from the public.

The numbers are: Mandya (08232-224003), Maddur (08232-232177), Malavalli (08231-244000), K.R. Pet (08230-262230), Nagamangala (08232-286031), Pandavapura (08236-255123) and Srirangapatna (08236-252037).

The residents can also reach the control room set up in thet town by dialing 08232-221443 and Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat B. Sharath by sending SMSs to 9480872000.
