Man injured in elephant attack

A tusker, separated from its herd, attacked a 52-year-old man at Kondapura in Tumakuru taluk on Saturday night.

Assistant Conservator of Forests D. Devaraj told The Hindu , “The elephant attacked Jayaramaiah of Kondapura village with its tusk at around 11.30p.m.” The victim was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru and is said to be out of danger, he said.

Despite several warnings to village residents to not venture out of their homes after 6 p.m., they continue to do so and are attacked by the elephants, Mr. Devaraj said.

The same tusker had attacked a woman, Kalpana (38), on Wednesday. She is recovering in a private hospital in Bengaluru.
