A 28-year-old man was arrested in Nagamangala taluk of the district on Sunday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

While the alleged incident took place on December 25, the victim informed about it to her parents only Sunday.

Subsequently, her father registered a complaint with the Nagamangala Rural police on Sunday evening.

Police gave the name of the accused as Sanjay Jawahar Lal, a resident of Shikaripura in Nagamangala.

Sanjay lured the victim - his neighbour - with sweets and invited her to his home, after her family members left for a church to participate in Christmas events. However, her deaf and dumb mother was at home when he sexually abused her, police said.

The girl did not report the incident to her parents as Sanjay threatened her of dire consequences if she told anybody about the incident, police added.

According to the police, the rape was confirmed during the medical examination conducted at the government hospital.
