Man gets life sentence for raping minor

The First Additional District and Sessions Court in the city has awarded life imprisonment to a person convicted of raping a minor.

The police arrested Mahesh, 27, a resident of Banashettykoppa village in Hosanagar taluk, in December 2016 on the charge of raping a minor girl who had come to the house of her relative in the village. According to the police, after raping her, he had threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anybody. The victim subsequently became pregnant.

Based on a complaint lodged by her family members, the police arrested him and booked him under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and under the POCSO Act. Based on the victim’s statement and the witness’ examination, the court found Mahesh guilty.
