For Prakash Belwaddi (48) of Hirekumbi village, Savadatti taluk, seven years of imprisonment at home ended when taluk officials and the police rescued him on Tuesday. Upon learning about his confinement, the police rushed to his house with tahsildar Daulatgouda Patil.

According to his family members, Prakash, son of Erappa Belwadi, was married and had a daughter. He was living with his parents and two brothers. They said he developed bad habits and turned alcoholic, although he did not create any problem for others in the village.

They alleged that he later turned psychotic and his behaviour became intolerable. Left with no option, his family members chained and kept him in a separate room. On Tuesday, circle inspector of Savadatti police station M.S. Patil and his team unchained him and took him out of the room where he had been confined.
