Congress candidate and former MLA D. Mallesh, who lost the Assembly election in Sakleshpur, on Wednesday declared his retirement from electoral politics.

“I have lost everything in this election. Time has come to bid adieu to electoral politics,” he told journalists soon after the results came in.

Mr. Mallesh said that despite him being an MLA for a term he did not own a house. “I have seen many people becoming multi-millionaires within years of becoming an MLA. I’m not like that. Even today, I stay in my village,” he said.

Differences

Blaming differences within the Congress for his defeat, he said he would complain to the party high command about anti-party activities of certain leaders with evidence.
