Chief Minister promises ₹15 crore in the first phase to beautify city

Major roads in Mysuru city are set to be spruced up at a cost of ₹55 crore using the Chief Minister special grants that was released a few months ago.

KRS road, Bogadi road, New Kantharaj Urs road, JLB road, Kuvempunagar double road, and Bengaluru-Mysuru road (from Millennium circle to Columbia Asia Hospital) are among the many roads that will be covered.

G. Jagadeesh, Commissioner of MCC, and Suresh Babu, Superintending Engineer, MCC, told The Hindu here on Thursday that over 250 works have been taken up. Apart from repairing and asphalting the roads, pothole filling, setting up medians and footpaths, painting of medians and laying of tiles to footpaths are among the works taken up.

Besides this, all four fountain circles will be rejuvenated by Dasara this year, the officials said. The MCC had sought an additional grant of ₹21 crore for the Dasara preparations and the Chief Minister has assured ₹15 crore in the first phase to beautify the city, Mr. Jagadeesh said.

The Chief Minister has also instructed the MCC to go ahead with tenders for different Dasara works, assuring to release the amount in 10 days.

The officials said work is expected to commence in 10 days.

Mr. Jagadeesh said hundreds of pourakarmikas would be appointed on a temporary basis for two months (September and October).
