Major rivers in the district, including Tunga, Bhadra, Sharavathi and Varada, were in spate on Thursday owing to heavy downpour.
The Varada was flowing above the danger mark in Talaguppa hobli owing to which paddy crop cultivated in 1,100 acres of land has been inundated. Beesanagadde village has been converted into an island by the river. The Sagar taluk administration has provided a motor boat for villagers. The water-level in Linganamakki reservoir has increased by 4 ft in a span of 24-hours owing to heavy rain in catchment areas of Tirthahalli and Hosanagar taluks. The water-level in the reservoir was recorded at 1,782 ft against the full reservoir level of 1,819 ft. Inflow at the rate of 53,478 cusecs was recorded here.
Owing to torrential rain in catchment areas, the water-level in Bhadra reservoir has raised by 3 ft in a span of 24 hours. The water-level in the reservoir was recorded at 166 ft against the full reservoir level of 186 ft. Inflow at the rate of 29,800 cusecs was recorded here.
Mastikatte in Hosanagar taluk has received 132 mm of rain, followed by Hulikal at 120 mm, Agumbe 88 mm, Mani 86 mm and 84 mm rain recorded in Yadur.

Heavy rain has affected normal life in several parts of Hassan and Chikmagalur districts, which form the Malnad region of the State.
The two districts received more than average rainfall in the last few days, forcing the district administration to keep the disaster management team prepared. The district administrations have declared holiday in Sakaleshpur of Hassan, Koppa, Mudigere and Sringeri taluks in Chikmagalur following reports of heavy rainfall.
Many low-lying areas in Sakaleshpur, Alur, Sringeri, Mudigere and Koppa taluks have been inundated. Traffic has been diverted in many places as many bridges have been submerged.

Deputy Commissioner B.S. Shekharappa has directed the tahsildar concerned and officers of the Education Department to take appropriate measures. “Compared to Wednesday, the rate of rainfall has come down in several places except in Sringeri. Our disaster management machinery is prepared in case of any incident. Tahsildars have been instructed to take necessary measures”, he told The Hindu .
As per the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre’s records, Hassan district received an average of 22 mm of rainfall against the normal 8.4 mm on Wednesday. Similarly, Chikmagalur district received 37.11 mm of rain against the normal 17.2 mm. Hettur in Sakaleshpur taluk registered the highest rainfall of 157 mm in Hasan district, while Kigga in Sringeri taluk received 150.5 mm rainfall in Chikmagalur district.
On Tuesday, Urubage village in Mudigere taluk had recorded 206 mm rainfall, the highest in the State on that day. Sakaleshpur taluk received an average of 88.5 mm rain on Wednesday against the normal of 23 mm. Crops such as banana and ginger were badly affected due to heavy rain in Hassan district.
S.S. Madhukeshwar, Assistant Commissioner of Sakaleshpur Sub-division, said that traffic on National Highway 75 had been affected after several trees were uprooted in the rain.
