Mahishi urges State not to dilute her report

Report recommended reserving a certain percentage of jobs in both government and private sectors to Kannadigas residing in the State

The former Union Minister Sarojini Mahishi on Friday urged the State government not to dilute her report which recommended reserving a certain percentage of jobs in both government and private sectors to Kannadigas residing in the State, as it would affect the interests of local people.

She was speaking at a seminar organised by Kannada Vedike, headed by the former MLA K. Prabhakara Reddy here.

Referring to the government statement that changes would be made in her report commensurate with new developments since it was submitted 25 years ago, she said changes were required with the changing times, but they should not be drastic and should not defeat the very purpose of the report.

Ms. Mahishi said the State government gives land, water, power and other benefits to private industries, but when it comes to giving employment, the owner appoints people belonging to his/her State, thereby denying jobs to Kannadigas. The law stipulates that they should furnish annual report to the government on how many jobs were given to local people, but neither they do it nor the government enquires whether this had been adhered to, she said.
