The former MP, Ramya, All-India Mahila Congress president Shobha Ojha and Karnataka Mahila Congress president Lakshmi Hebbalkar were felicitated in Mandya on Saturday.

All-India Mahila Congress president Shobha Ojha has criticised the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly dividing the country on communal lines besides failing to fulfil electoral promises.

Addressing a gathering at Mandya District Mahila Congress convention here on Saturday, Ms. Ojha accused the government of dividing people on communal lines and destroying the integrity of the country.

Mr. Modi came to power by making false promises about women’s empowerment and development of country. However, he has failed in providing protection to women, controlling the spiralling prices of essential commodities and implementing the promises made during the elections to woo voters, she alleged.

She also criticised the ‘Go Rakshaks’ for their attacks on Dalits and other communities in different parts of the country.

The Congress leader recalled some popular steps implemented by her party-led government in the past, including political reservation for women and voting rights to the youth, and said that the Congress was the only party that strives to uplift people of all communities across the country.

The former MP, Ramya, State Mahila Congress president Lakshmi Hebbalkar, and district unit president Lalitha Bhaskar were present.
