The state government has decided to file a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal rejecting Karnataka’s application seeking seven tmcft water for the Kalasa-Banduri Nala drinking water project.
On Friday, Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil met State Counsel Fali Nariman in New Delhi and decided to file SLP before the Apex Court to set right injustice meted out to the state by the Tribunal, according to official sources in the State Secretariat.
The Hindu had earlier reported that the government was keen on filing the SLP before the Apex Court to seek some kind of relief from the court to ensure justice to farmers, who have been protesting seeking water from the Mahadayi river for the Kalasa-Banduri Nala drinking water project.
An all-party meeting was convened August 7 and discussed various options before the state to resolve the water dispute amicably. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the Centre’s intervention to solve the dispute through talks.
