The district unit of Aam Admi Party (AAP) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene into the protracted Mahadayi dispute for an amicable solution. The sharing of water from the Mahadayi river is now a bone of contention between the three riparian States, particularly Karnataka and Goa.

AAP activists, who symbolically picketed the Sampige Road residence of BJP MP Suresh C. Angadi on Wednesday, submitted a memorandum at the latter’s home office. They urged him to use his good office to convince Mr. Modi on the need for early settlement of the dispute and provide justice to the water-starved areas of North Karnataka districts.

AAP district president Nitin Naikwad said the party leaders simultaneously picketed the residence of all the MPs from the State to take up the issue with Mr. Modi, seeking his intervention towards an out-of-court settlement.

“If the MPs from the State fail to convince Mr. Modi to intervene, then they should all resign," he said.
