The district unit of the Madiga Mahasabha will hold a rally on May 13 here to pressure the State government to implement the recommendations of the Justice A.J. Sadashiva Commission report on internal reservation.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the mahasabha on Monday at Pourakarmika Bhavan.
At the meeting, Davangere University syndicate member H. Vishwanath said that members of the mahasabha from all the taluks in the district would take part in the rally.
Separate committees should be formed to coordinate with taluk members to ensure the success of the rally, he added.
Losing identity
He said that the Madiga community in the State was on the verge of losing its identity due to the negligent attitude of successive governments in providing necessary facilities to community. If the same situation continued, future generations of the community would be deprived of their rights and their life would become miserable.
“The mahasabha should also plan to organise different seminars and workshops and highlight the importance of implementing the recommendations of the commission by inviting experts in the programmes,” he added.
Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsha Samithi organising secretary Alur Ningaraj said that of the 101 Scheduled Castes in the State, the Madiga community had the largest population. But all political parties were using the community as a vote bank by giving false assurances during elections.
“The facilities being provided to the backward communities are being misused due to the inclusion of some communities in the list of backward communities by the politicians in last few decades,” they alleged.
So the State government should be appealed to implement the recommendations of the Sadashiv commission report as it has submitted the report after studying conditions of the backward communities in detail.
Dalit leader B.H. Veerbhadrappa informed that another meeting on Wednesday would be convened to form committees to coordinate with all participants from different taluks.
