Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, on Saturday visited Hanumant Nagar in Nittur municipal ward here, which has recorded 51 cases of dengue.

He inspected the drains and also visited houses of some people. He urged the people not to store water as this was one of the reasons for spread of dengue. He also distributed mosquito nets.

CMC staff pulled up

Mr. Madhwaraj took the City Municipal Council staff to task for not dredging the drains properly. People complained that the CMC workers were removing silt and depositing it by the roadside.

He urged the representatives of youth organisations to become proactive in their areas and help the authorities in checking the spread of dengue. Nagaratna, Taluk Health Officer, said of the 72 suspected cases of dengue recorded in the area since May 22, 51 had tested positive. However, there had been no fatalities. The problem started in December, 2016, when the city was facing water shortage and people started storing water.
