The Kannada Film Awards for 2010-11 were announced on Friday, with Puneet Rajkumar and Ramya being adjudged best actors for their roles in Jackie and Sanju Weds Geetha, respectively.
Maagiya Kala, directed K. Shivarudraiah and produced by Bhagya Chinnaswamy (Bhodi Creations, Bangalore), was adjudged the best film, followed by Tamassu (second best), directed by Agni Sridhar and produced by Sayyed Aman Bachchan, and Manasa (third best), produced by Anitha Rani (Ani Arts, Bangalore) and directed by Kudlu Ramakrishna.
The film awards announced on April 5, 2012 kicked up a controversy over violation of norms in appointing the selection committee members. Basanth Kumar Patil, producer, challenged the committee’s selection and High Court of Karnataka directed the State government to constitute a new committee and announce the awards afresh.
Byari won the award in the social issues category. The film was produced by Altaf Hussain and directed by Suveeran.
The film also got the national award.
Onduralli won the award in the children’s film category. The film was produced by Sai Raksha Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and directed by Nikhil Manju.
The Dr. Rajkumar Award for outstanding contribution to the Kannada film industry went to veteran actor S. Shivaram, while veteran director Bhargava was chosen for the Puttanna Kanagal Award for Lifetime Achievement. Both the awards carry a purse of Rs. 2 lakh and a gold-plated plaque.
Veteran Kannada actor M.H. Ambareesh won the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award for Lifetime Achievement in various fields of the industry. The award carries a purse of Rs. 2 lakh and a gold-plated plaque.
The best supporting actor award went to Achyut Kumar for his role in Hejjegalu, while Harshika Poonacha got the award for her role in Tamassu.
A selection committee, headed by noted director S.K. Bhagwan, announced the awards in the presence of Minister of State for Information and Infrastructure Santosh Lad. The committee watched 50 films.
The producer and director of the best film will each get a purse of Rs. 1 lakh, a 50 gm gold medal and a plaque.
The best actor (male) and best actor (female) awards carry a purse of Rs. 20,000, a 100 gm silver medal and a plaque.
The awards would be presented in November.
