Lure disgruntled leaders in rival parties into Congress, says Vishnunadh

All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary P.C. Vishnunadh met Congress leaders here during his recent visit and discussed various issues, including strategies for the next year’s Assembly elections.

Mr. Vishnunadh, who elicited the opinion of the leaders on various aspects, emphasised on the need for party leaders to start working for the elections in the right earnest by strengthening the party at the booth-level.

Among other things, the AICC secretary advised party leaders to lure disgruntled leaders in rival parties into the Congress fold after talking to them and trying to redress their grievances.

He said party leaders should build their contact with the residents at the booth-level, a Congress leader, who was among the leaders, who met Mr Vishnunadh, told The Hindu.

The AICC leader also spent time discussing election strategies to retain Krishnaraja Assembly constituency in Mysuru, where party candidate M.K. Somashekar won in 2013 at a time when the BJP and KJP candidates were both in the fray.

Leaders from different Assembly constituencies in Mysuru City and district met the AICC leader.

Among those who met Mr. Vishnunadh include Mr. Somashekar, Vasu, MLA for Chamaraja, chairman of Mysuru Paints and Varnishes Ltd. Venkatesh H.A., Zoo Authority of Karnataka chairperson Mallige Veeresh, president of the Mysuru City Congress Committee R. Murthy, and president of the Mysuru Rural District Congress Committee Vijaykumar.

Mr. Vishnunadh, who was accompanied by the former Minister and vice-president of KPCC B.K. Chandrashekar during his visit to Mysuru, has been given in-charge of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru districts, Congress sources said.
