Lunch-hour dharna at GPO

September 03, 2013 10:38 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:50 pm IST - BANGALORE:

A group of employees of the General Post Office (GPO) on Monday participated in a lunch-hour dharna organised by the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers Karnataka State here.

The confederation is demanding the constitution of the seventh Central Pay Commission, as well as the merger of Dearness Allowance (DA) with pay for all purposes.

The confederation members also want the Contribution Pension Scheme scrapped.

They are seeking the regularisation of services of Gramin Dak Sevaks of the Postal Department, daily wage workers and contract labourers.

P.S. Prasad, general secretary of the confederation, said that the lunch-hour dharna was observed in Central government offices in at least 10 districts in the State. “Work was not affected. The idea is to give a wakeup call to the government. If the government fails to meet our demands, we will resort to indefinite strikes,” he said.

A similar dharna is planned at the Income Tax office on Queen’s Road here on Tuesday, Mr. Prasad said.
