Political activity in the State capital has gained momentum with the mainstream political parties beginning to finalise strategies to choose “winnable” candidates in each one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies.
With indications emerging from Delhi about the possibility of the election schedule being announced by February-end, frenetic activity could be seen in the party offices of the Congress, the BJP, and the Janata Dal(S).
Taking the lead, the Congress has collected the names of possible candidates, though it has not finalised them yet. The KPCC held a meeting of its office-bearers on Friday to discuss the list. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attended a meeting, called by the party high command, in New Delhi where preliminary discussions were initiated.
BJP leaders too were closeted at a State executive meeting, chaired by party president Rajnath Singh, on Friday. In addition to discussions on the possible candidates, the issue of readmitting KJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa into the party also came up. Though no official announcement was made, the upbeat mood among the leaders showed that Mr. Yeddyurappa’s re-entry was definite, but only a date needed to be announced. This would further strengthen the party, the leaders felt.
BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said that the party had begun door-to-door visits.
