Lord Yama to fight Shettar

April 18, 2013 11:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:17 pm IST - HUBLI:

Among those who lined up to file nomination papers for Hubli Dharwad (Central) Assembly constituency were ‘Lord Yama’ and ‘Mahatma Gandhi’.

S.R. Kampli, a 73-year-old retired corporation employee and part-time theatre artiste, had come dressed as Lord Yama to contest against Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. Mr. Kampli, who retired as health supervisor from the municipal corporation, has been fighting for the cause of theatre artistes by staging protests in unique ways.

However, his costume got him into trouble. The security personnel didn’t allow him to enter the election office along with his mace as he was considered “armed”. It was only after he surrendered his ‘weapon’ that he was allowed entry to file his nomination papers.

On the other hand, Channabasappa Angadi of Navalgund came dressed as Gandhi to support his friend, Shivanand Bellad, an Independent candidate. He even said that he would be campaigning for Mr. Bellad in the same attire.
