Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao visited the Government Urdu Lower Primary School functioning from a single room at Kolikere here on Tuesday, following a report in The Hindu .

Mr. Rao interacted with teachers and children.

The teachers told him that children in classes one to four are accommodated in one room measuring about 10 x 10.

Mr. Rao took the officials of the Department of Public Instructions to task for prolonged delay in shifting the school to a bigger premises.

The department’s failure to provide infrastructure was gross violation of the Right to Education Act. The Act envisages a right to every child to receive education in schools with conducive atmosphere and infrastructure.

The children have to be provided vehicles if the school is located 3 km away from their houses, he said.

When Mr. Rao asked Block Education Officer Girish Padaki how long it would take to shift the school to a building with infrastructure, Mr. Padaki said that he would shift the school in a month.
