Lokayukta police raid granite quarries in Koppal district

The Lokayukta police, acting on a tip-off that illegal granite quarrying was taking place in Kukkanur village in Koppal district, conducted raids on 23 places on Wednesday.

Sources in the Lokayukta told The Hindu that the raids were carried out by four teams and found granite boulders of various sizes being extracted illegally. The boulders were seized.

Kukkanur is known for its Himalayan blue granite.

The raids were led by A.H. Chippar, Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Raichur, and M.H. Chikka Reddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Koppal.
