Women garment workers deserve a better deal

The camera captures women garment export workers packed into auto rickshaws as they make their way home back from work in the Kolar district of Karnataka. The Ministry of Textiles recently said that it wants women to work in night-shifts, as part of its proposal to introduce flexible labour laws for women. However, without the industry providing its employees adequate facilities for transport and security, the said proposal falls short.
