Prominent litterateurs, supported by social organisations, joined the Congress in its campaigning activities here.
Among them were K. Maralusiddappa, S.G. Siddaramaiah, G.K. Govinda Rao and Mavalli Shankar; they were supported by the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, and the Karnataka State Backward Classes Forum, among other organisations. The gathered at Gandhi Square near Town Hall here and after garlanding a statue of the Mahatma launched a padayatra in support of the Congress.
They met traders, street vendors, passers-by and students before converging at K.R. Circle. From there, they proceeded to the Manasagangotri campus, later spreading out to the residential areas of Saraswathipuram and Kuvempunagar, seeking votes for the Congress.
Fascist politicsOnly this party had “the capability to fight and take on the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Mr. Modi represents a specific type of politics – fascism. We are not concerned with what he is speaking about today, as we have followed his political career and are aware of his mindset, which is dangerous to the country,” said Mr. Maralu Siddappa.
‘Happy to support AAP’The litterateur added that they would have been happy to support the Aam Aadmi Party, which, he said, was a good development in the politics of the country. “But as far as Karnataka is concerned, AAP has yet to have strong roots. Instead of dividing votes that would benefit the BJP, it is to consolidate and vote for the Congress,’ Mr. Maralusiddappa added.
Their itinerary for Saturday includes campaigning at Kukkarahalli lake, which is one of the most popular spots among hundreds of morning walkers and joggers. They will later head to Mysore Rural.
