As many as 98 candidates who got elected to the 13th Assembly (2008) got re-elected to the 14th Assembly in the just-concluded elections.
While majority of the newly elected members contested from the same party in both the elections, some managed to win even after switching loyalties and some as Independents.
Among the 98 re-elected members, 42 are from the Congress, 29 from the BJP and 11 from the Janata Dal (Secular). Three candidates who had won as Independent candidates in the 2008 elections won as Congress candidates this time — Shivaraj Thangadagi from Kanakagiri, D. Sudhakar from Hiriyur and P.M. Narendrasway from Malavalli.
C.P. Yogeshwar, who won as a Congress candidate from Channapatna in 2008 got re-elected as Samajwadi Party candidate from the same constituency this time.
Two candidates who had won on BJP ticket last time are re-entering the Assembly as independent MLAs — B. Nagendra from Kudligi and Halady Srinivasa Shetty from Kundapura . Balachandra L. Jarkiholi, who won with an impressive margin of 75,221 votes from Arabhavi and Umesh V. Katti who won by a margin of 57,236 votes from Hukkeri as BJP candidates this time were in the Janata Dal (Secular) in 2008.
T. Suresh Babu and B. Sriramulu who won from Kampli and Bellary respectively on BSR Congress ticket were elected on BJP ticket during 2008 elections. KJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa had won on BJP ticket last time while KJP’s Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli who won from Bidar this time was a Congress MLA from the same constituency last time.
